Typical California lake campground. Nothing spectacular accommodations wise, but a beautiful location. Was not very happy about the camp host running a generator every evening. The last night they ran it until after 10:00 pm which was a bit annoying. Bathrooms are very sparse, no showers and sinks are half functional. Lake access is not easy from the campground and requires getting in the car and driving to reach the lake.
Reserved campsites all closed for 2 years .
Rain flood damage . And there web site did not mention it. Off site camping lucky to find. Bathroom
We're lucky 10 min drive.
But peaceful
Beautiful, serene campground. Spotless bathrooms, kind hosts. We were in Space#3. Close to bathrooms and water faucet. Not very close to the lake, but got the kayaks to the shore and left them there during our stay. I think the sites in the 30's loop may be the best. No cell or internet - perfect!!!
I would definitely stay at Hume Lake again! The hosts were great, coming around from time to time to make sure everything was going good. NO CELL RECEPTION UP THERE. We have T-Mobile so be prepared for that. The space we stayed at was #62. The view of the lake was not bad. (We thought this was tent only campground so when the giant RV pulled in across from us, it blocked our view of the lake, bummer) You can see it thru the trees still. Our campsite was slightly at a slope with some uneven ground. But nothing serious. You could fit only 2 cars in our space. Looks like all the campsites have a bear safe container, an old wooden picnic table, and a grill/fire pit included. We did have a water spigot across from us. The bathrooms were clean, but they didn't have lights inside. Bring a flashlight. They also have large trash cans at a designated area on the campsite. It seems like the entire national park had free chopped up large pieces of wood everywhere. But I would definitely bring a saw or ax to chop it up. Also, everytime we prepared food at the campsite, there were these little yellow bees that wanted any type of food we had out. Really annoying. They weren't the common bees you see on flowers, but they only came around when food was out. Something to think about. Obviously there were mosquitoes too. Bring bug spray. There is a Christian Camp across from the lake that Some say gets loud when they are open season. Keeps that in mind if you want to avoid that noise. Some places we definitely recommend visiting around the park is Mist falls trail. It's about an hour away from Hume Lake. Very long hike so bring good hiking shoes, snacks and lots of water. Very easy/moderate hike. Look it up. And go see the amazing General Grant tree. Those giant Sequoia trees are breath taking.
Love this campground and the lake was perfect for our mile swim. Some camp sites are not leveled so make sure you pack enough RV leveling blocks so your refrigerator won't quit on you, luckily we had ours. The Hume Lake Christian Camp was popping. I can see how it might bother some who are looking for some R&R but to be honest it wasn't that big of a deal. It was at times fun to be howling back and forth with them. Please note the dump station is at Princess campground, pack your own water hose or you can go to Dunlap, trailer park off the 180, for $10.
It’s priced too high. ($32 per night plus fee if you reserve online - no electric, water spigot and flushing toilets)
But, it’s walking distance to the lake!
We were at site 39, secluded with shade (must needed at this time a year)
It was pretty quiet (Wednesday-Thursday) and seems to get busier on the weekends.
The campground is great, here is what i liked:
1. Super clean restrooms
2. Good distance within campsites
3. The host was very kind and helpful
4. Lots of cut wood around for your camp fire
5. Saw milky way and planets
disliked:
1. We arrived late and it was very hard to locate our site within the campground. There is a very small map on the entrance checkin cabin .
2. Sunny in the day and little more cold in the night. Be prepared with sleeping bags
This is my absolute favorite place to camp. It is such a beautiful campground and is kept up very nicely. The lake is absolutely beautiful and a great temperature for swimming. It is very close to the Hume Lake Christian Camps which has a general store, gas station, water activities, a coffee shop, and a variety of places to eat food.
